Job Description: Provides overall leadership for sanitation department in the areas of safety, productivity, quality, cost, equipment and engagement. Engages all employees in continuous improvement and fosters a positive work environment while developing a culture of ownership and accountability.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Manage all day-to-day sanitation operations.
  • Develop, update maintain as necessary standard operating procedures for all sanitation processes in the facility.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly programs requirements are met in full.
  • Ensure conformance to quality and food safety standards by working with all levels of plant personnel.
  • Spends 80% of time on the floor observing process workflow, equipment operations, and ensuring that sanitation guidelines are being followed.
  • Participate in and follow up on internal audits of sanitation and employee safety programs and practices. Conduct internal sanitation, GMP and technical audits as needed.
  • Conduct employee and food safety training meetings. Provides educational/training opportunities for sanitation employees and line operators.
  • Introduce new or improved cleaning methods, procedures, equipment, technologies, and other new developments in the field of sanitation.
  • Establish leadership and set the strategic direction for the sanitation team. Ensure necessary plans are in place to deliver the required business results while developing a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Interpret safety policies/practices to employees including enforcing safe work practices.
  • Set clear priorities and align resources to deliver against business and regulatory requirements in the areas of cost, financial controls, and quality, safety and business initiatives.
  • Determine schedules, sequences and assignments for work activities based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel.
  • Ensure clear and concise communication to all levels in the organization.
  • Must be able to drive improvements in sanitation processes. Must be able to put new systems and procedures in place while instilling accountability and ownership in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement projects through the practice of Root Cause Analysis, Kaizens, 5S, etc.
  • Must comply with and support the requirements defined within the contents of the GMP, HACCP/HARPC, LOTO procedures, the PSM program and Food Quality and Food Safety/SQF programs established by Bay Valley Foods.
  • Must be able to perform other related duties as assigned. This position can involve weekend and on call duties.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Manager/Supervisor experience in a unionized work environment.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office.
  • Previous SAP experience preferred.
  • Working understanding of HACCP, SSOP and other regulatory programs as they relate to food manufacturing.
  • Works well with a team.
  • Possess ability to deal easily and effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with strong multitasking, analytical thinking, problem solving and leadership skills.
  • Attend technical meetings to continually update knowledge in advances in sanitation.

High School or equivalent
High School plus specialized training (min 6mos-2yrs)
Associate Degree
Bachelor's Degree Required
Master's Degree Required
Certification/Licensure Required for Job:
Minimum Experience Preferred: Three to five years in food manufacturing/sanitation experience or two to four years of progressive supervisory experience within a unionized work environment. Experience within a SAP ERP environment strongly preferred.
Travel Requirements: 5%

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
